Yahoo the scallop season has started and summer is on its way 😎
We had our first scallop dive yesterday and run an orientation dive for Fraser Turner whom just purchased a brand new Dive Rite Nomad XT side-mount from Go Dive.
Scrummy, juicy scallops.
To be honest the scallops are not their fat juicy selves that we enjoy closer to summer and could do with a few more months to get them in this state. It was good to get in wet though and to introduce Fraser to the world of side-mount diving.
Plenty of things happening from now on with Lermontov dives and local dives. Remember to, that now is a good time to get that kit serviced so it is all “good to go” for summer.
Apeks are currently running a special on some model regulators, including the DS4, XTX20, XTX50, XTX100 and XTX200. In some cases these are available at nearly half the normal retail price, for instance an XTX100 is going for $775.00. Available in yoke or DIN. Prices while stocks last, if you are after a quality reg then now’s the time to buy.
Safe diving Brent 🙄
Congratulations to Simon Bainbridge on completion of his TDI Advanced Wreck course on the Lermontov. Simon has dived with Go Dive a number of times now and was looking for a course that would challenge him, as well as picking up skills that would allow him to explore deeper into wrecks. I am pleased to say the course meet his expectations, with Simon saying it was the most challenging course he has completed to date.
Exiting the Cinema on the Lermontov
Simon joins a growing team of trained advanced wreck divers and with the next course nearly full, this group is growing steadily. If you are interested in exploring wrecks beyond the recreational zone and like to be challenged then this is the course for you.
Brent : 😛
Its been a busy week for Go Dive. Most of last week was spent at Port Gore diving the Lermontov with JJ CCR divers John and Sonia, on Friday I hosted the owner of the rather large and unusual Yacht A on a guided dive on the Lermy.
Super Yacht A
Over the weekend local guys Mike Patchett, Brendon Meys and Frank May completed their Open water course in Picton with me, congratulations guys on a job well done.
Bookings for TecFestnz are coming in thick and fast, with nearly all the free Intro to Tech courses being allocated. This is going to be a great event, so don’t miss out.
Until next time
This last week has brought in some rare visitors to Marlborough.
Great rafts of krill were seen in the Inner Sounds on Thursday, these platonic creatures are seldom seen in Marlborough – only occurring every three or four years.
Zillions of Krill seen in Picton
Also, in for a visit was a young Royal Albatross, these are huge magnificent birds. This one being very friendly, accepting food from out of our hands 😆
Unfortunatley due to all the plantonic soup, the vis isn’t at its best at the moment.
We still however managed to enjoy a good weekend over in Port Gore diving the Lermontov. Congratulations to Glen and Finbar who completed their PADI Advanced open water course with Go Dive.
Royal Abatross comes for a visit
We have another weekend next weekend, diving the Lermontov, there are still a few spots on this trip if your up for splash – who knows what we will come across next.
